Countless asylum seekers are being sent to sanctuary states where they gain obtain safety and access to all sorts of services that they did not have access to prior. Governors of states like Texas and Arizona have sent immigrants to various sanctuary cities as they recognize that they will have access to services such as schooling and health care there despite their immigration statuses. Cities that have declared themselves as “sanctuary” guarantee that they will take in these immigrants and offer them protection through the implementation of their sanctuary policies. Ultimately, these sanctuary destinations are utilizing their resources and doing all that they can to assist asylum seekers in settling down and gaining access to the programs they require to be safe and stable.

It is evident that these sanctuary communities are providing immigrants with a chance for relief from deportation through the development of safer, more secure communities. However, many are struggling due to the arrival of the thousands of migrants that have been shipped unexpectedly. For example, New York is having a hard time accommodating asylum seekers that were bused there by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas. It has proved to be challenging to provide resources to everyone. Nonetheless, states that are experiencing the arrival of high numbers of immigrants, such as New York and Washington D.C., are working hard to provide arrivals with shelter and other resources they may require as they first arrive. They have pledged to support immigrants and are dedicated to fulfilling their promises to the people as sanctuary states.
