Extension of Employment Authorization for Those Under DED for Liberia

By September 9, 2022September 22nd, 2022No Comments

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has announced that there will be an extension of eligibility for Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Liberians. Not only has the extension of DED for Liberians been lengthened to twenty-four months, but the Liberian individuals that are eligible and covered under DED as of the date June 30th, 2022, have the opportunity to remain in the country until June 30th, 2024. Another aspect of this policy that is beneficial is that the removal of Liberian individuals who have been present in the United States since May 20th, 2017, and are eligible for DED has been delayed/deferred. On top of this, the employment authorization for these Liberian individuals covered by DED is still in action until June 30th, 2024. Eligible Liberians can also apply for travel authorization as if one leaves without it, they can lose their DED eligibility, therefore spoiling their chances of returning to the country.
