Extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Syria: Assistance Available at Jeelani Law Firm

Dear Clients,

We want to inform you of an important announcement from U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas regarding the extension and redesignation of Syria for Temporary Protected Status (TPS). This decision comes in light of the ongoing armed conflict and temporary conditions in Syria, making it unsafe for individuals to return.

Under this extension, TPS for Syria will be extended for 18 months, from April 1, 2024, to September 30, 2025. This provides much-needed relief for Syrian nationals currently residing in the United States. Secretary Mayorkas emphasizes the humanitarian importance of this decision, recognizing the dire circumstances faced by Syrian nationals unable to return home safely.

The extension allows approximately 6,200 current beneficiaries to retain their TPS status through September 5, 2025, provided they continue to meet eligibility requirements. Additionally, the redesignation of Syria for TPS allows an estimated 2,000 additional Syrian nationals, who have been continuously residing in the United States since January 25, 2024, to apply for TPS if eligible.

At Jeelani Law Firm, we are here to assist you through this process. Our experienced team can guide you in understanding eligibility criteria, completing necessary forms, and ensuring timely submission of applications. We understand the complexities of immigration law and are committed to helping you navigate them effectively.

For those currently benefiting from TPS for Syria, re-registration is crucial. The re-registration period runs from January 29, 2024, through March 29, 2024. Failure to re-register during this period may result in the loss of TPS status and employment authorization.
