Immigrants staying at the Florida ICE facility complain of inhumane conditions, physical and verbal assaults, and medical neglect. A federal complaint was filed by a civil rights organization against allegations at the Florida ICE facility. This is because immigrants staying at the detention center in Florida have complained of physical harassment by the officers. Immigrant detainees are also experiencing racism by the officers who use prejudiced slurs against Latino and Black migrant detainees.
Immigrant women who were detained have filed complaints with federal officials for sexual abuse by guards. The women have complained of threatening behavior by the guards at the facility, including unannounced entries by male guards and sexual voyeurism. Women have also endured sexual harassment by a certain psychiatrist on top of the mental and physical abuse they are already undergoing. In addition to these traumatic conduct violations, the mistreatment of these immigrants also includes exposure to toxic chemical spray, medical neglect, and violation of COVID-19 safety protocols. They also report of health abuse including exposure to toxic disinfectant spray that is being sprayed in unventilated rooms, which has led to headaches and difficulty in breathing.
