Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent a bus full of migrants to New York, as he has been sending asylum seekers to the East coast since April. His main objective for doing so is to apply pressure on the Biden administration into offering relief to these individuals and secure the southwest border. They undergo a long and difficult journey when migrating to the United States, and Governor Abbott believes that they would assimilate better in New York. Abbott claimed that Mayor Eric Adams has said that the migrants will receive city services and housing. Nonetheless, when these asylum seekers are being sent to New York, they are struggling to find safety and housing for themselves, even though the conditions are better than struggling at the overcrowded border.
Despite the efforts to help these migrants find shelter and better conditions, the shelter system, is incredibly overloaded and disorganized, especially in New York. Migrants are working hard to find financial opportunities and space in family intake shelters, although it is hard to do so at this moment. Fortunately, there have been some American families that have taken in these migrants and have given them a place to stay. Countless others, who did not obtain the same opportunities, are struggling to get settled in.
