On November 22nd, 2022, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) made an announcement regarding extending the filing fee exemptions and accelerated application processing for a select group of Afghan nationals. These changes will apply to those that were paroled on or after July 30th, 2021, whether they entered the United States due to humanitarian circumstances or any other reasons. This processing extension will enable USCIS to handle their claims for work authorization, long-term status, status for close relations, and related services more swiftly. In addition, these steps will aid Afghan nationals in their relocation to the United States and, in many circumstances, enable them to reunite with members of their family. The facilitation of other benefits including work authorization and Green Card applications are also improved through these extensions. All these contributions are a major step towards assisting Afghan nationals in resettling in the United States. They demonstrate the country’s commitment to helping these individuals with their livelihoods and security.
