The following countries have recently been designated for Temporary Protected Status (TPS):

  • Cameroon
  • Ukraine
  • Afghanistan
Cameroonians

Due to the extreme violence by government forces and armed separatists, Cameroonians who have been residing in the U.S. as of April 14, 2022 have been given the opportunity to seek TPS in the U.S. for an initial period of 18 months.

Ukrainians

Due to the Russian attacks on Ukraine, the U.S. will allow Ukrainians who have been in the U.S. since March 1st or prior to apply and qualify for TPS for and initial period of 18 months.

Afghans

Due to the armed conflict in Afghanistan as the Taliban seeks to impose control of the country, the U.S. has deemed the country unsafe for its nationals to return to. Those Afghans that have been residing in the U.S. as of March 15, 2022 will qualify to apply for TPS for an initial 18-month period.

USCIS will be announcing a registration period in the upcoming weeks for the above countries.
