Temporary Protected Status Registration Periods Announced for Ukraine and Sudan

The registration process for applying for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) has been announced by USCIS for the following countries:

  • Ukraine
  • Sudan
Ukraine

Due to the Russian attacks on Ukraine, the U.S. will allow Ukrainians to qualify for TPS for a period of 18 months. In order to qualify, the applicant must have resided in the U.S. since April 11, 2022, and have continuously, physically been present in the U.S. since April 19, 2022. The registration period is from April 19, 2022 until October 19, 2023.

Sudan

Due to the armed conflict and continuing humanitarian crisis in Sudan, the U.S. has deemed the country unsafe for its nationals to return to. In order to qualify, the applicant must have resided in the U.S. since March 1, 2022, and have continuously, physically been present in the U.S. since April 19, 2022. The registration period is from April 19, 2022 until October 19, 2023.

Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. All applicants may also apply for employment authorization along with their TPS applications.
