On this week’s cold Monday morning, a bus transporting twenty-eight immigrants arrived from Texas and made its way right outside Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station. The bus was deployed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in an effort to move border issues to sanctuary cities all throughout the United States.
Immigration activists in Philadelphia referred to the bus excursion as a terrible ruse perpetrated on defenseless individuals who are illegally present in the country. In response to Abbott’s government bringing the bus to Philadelphia with little to no notice and zero plan to assist the families once they arrived, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney dubbed Texas governor as “cruel”. According to witnesses, immigrants began disembarking into the chilly Philadelphia morning around 6:15 A.M., as they were greeted and provided with winter clothing, blankets, and hot chocolate by volunteers. Advocates claim that most of the immigrants were from Columbia, Dominican Republic, and Cuba. This is the second bus transporting more immigrants from Texas that has been authorized to be sent to a sanctuary state by Governor Abbott.
