U.S. House Speaker Takes On Border Crisis

By January 21, 2023January 31st, 2023No Comments

Kevin Owen McCarthy is the 55th and current speaker of the United States House of Representatives, serving since January 7th, 2023. During recent weeks, he has made a pledge promising to tackle border crises and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) funding among a number of other conflicts this nation has been dealing with these past couple of years. The recently elected House Speaker made the announcement after a weeklong battle with his own party most likely due to varying opinions on the subject. He has also made sure to emphasize his character by describing himself as somebody who does not give up easily, considering the road to becoming speaker of the House was not quite simple for him.

On Saturday, January 7th, McCarthy gave a speech discussing the 118th congressional session. His speech outlined an ambitious plan to “be the check and bring some balance” to President Joe Biden’s initiatives. He said that the revocation of funding for roughly more than 85,000 additional IRS agents is the first piece of legislation he intends to work on. In fact, the Republican-controlled House will conduct some of its first hearings of the year near the Southern border, he said, highlighting immigration reform as a primary goal of his. In addition, during his speech, United States House Speaker Kevin McCarthy highlighted the importance of securing the nation’s borders and ending the false narratives about the United States border crisis.
